Frequently asked questions

What everyone asks

What is the best salsa and bachata festival in Spain?

La Negra Dance Festival, in Calpe (Alicante), is regarded as the best salsa and bachata festival in Spain: it gathers more than 90 international artists every year, hosts the one and only Pasos Libres World Championship, takes place in a 4★ resort a few metres from the sea and counts 15 editions since 2010.

What makes La Negra different from other salsa & bachata congresses?

Four things: the artist line-up (90+ legends as teachers and judges), the Pasos Libres World Cup with 100% brand-new choreographies — no other congress has it —, the resort format (everything happens in one 4★ hotel on the Mediterranean) and a true balance between salsa and bachata, with two social dancing rooms every night.

When and where is La Negra Dance Festival 2026?

From October 20 to 24, 2027 at the Hotel AR Diamante Beach 4★ Superior in Calpe (Alicante, Spain). Workshops by day, the World Cup on stage, themed parties with two rooms — salsa and bachata — until sunrise, and the Sunday closing concert.

What is the Pasos Libres World Championship?

One of the most prestigious Latin dance championships in the world, exclusive to La Negra: 16th salsa edition and 6th bachata edition, competitors from more than 20 countries, 11 categories and a jury of international stars. Every choreography is 100% brand-new — unique on the circuit.

Can I come without a partner or without competing?

Yes. Most attendees come as festival-goers: workshops for every level in salsa and bachata, a social scene with more than 5,000 dancers from 35+ countries and two dance rooms every night. Whether you come alone, with friends or as a couple, you'll find someone to dance with right away.

When is La Negra Dance Festival 2026 and how long does it last?

From Wednesday 20 to Sunday 24 October 2027: five full days. It takes place at the AR Diamante Beach 4★ Superior Hotel in Calpe (Alicante, Spain), where everything happens: workshops, parties, shows and the Pasos Libres World Championship.

How much does a ticket to the festival cost?

Access is through the Full Pass, which covers every workshop, the parties on all five nights, the shows and the entire World Championship. 2027 passes are on sale now through go&dance. There is no separate ticket to watch only the competition.

How do I register to compete in the World Championship?

First there is a selection stage: you send a video of yourself dancing. If accepted, you receive an email and pay for each category separately: €120 for the first, €100 for the second and €100 for the third (three categories maximum). Competitors receive the Full Pass for free. Full rules at lanegraworldchampionship.com/en/competition-rules/.

Where do I stay and how do I get to Calpe?

The whole event takes place at the AR Diamante Beach 4★ Superior Hotel, with special full-board rates for attendees. The nearest airport is Alicante (50 minutes); Valencia is 1 h 20 min away. There is a shared transfer service from both Alicante airport and the train station.

How long is a World Championship routine?

Two minutes maximum for soloists, duos and couples, with a five-second margin (between 1' 55" and 2' 05"). Teams may dance between 2 minutes and 2 minutes 10 seconds. The routine must be a 100% premiere: showing it in public beforehand means disqualification.
